Recent contract activity: (~21,000 RNs): Ratified 4-year contract with 22.5% pay hike. $25/hr CA minimum, $23/hr elsewhere. Followed Oct 2025 and Jan 2026 strikes.
NP practice authority: Phased in. January 1, 2026 marks formal start of "104 NP" certification — California now recognizes full-practice NPs. Metro wages generally run 5-15% above the state mean, and rural postings 5-10% below — though rural and critical-access hospitals often close part of that gap with sign-on bonuses and loan repayment, because they compete for a much smaller pool of applicants. ANCC Magnet-designated hospitals typically pay 8-12% more than non-Magnet facilities for the same role.
